Question:
My 4-year-old child was recently bitten on the ear by a dog and the top cartilage was torn. At what age do the ears stop growing so that the results of an otoplasty would be permanent?
Answer:
I am sorry to hear about your child’s unfortunate accident. I would suggest waiting until your child is about 5 or 6 years of age prior to otoplasty or auricular reconstructive surgery. The ear is usually of an adult size and shape by this age and the results of otoplasty surgery will be permanent.
