I’m a 29-year-old woman, and I just got neck lipo two weeks ago. A substantial amount of scar tissue seems to be forming under my chin, and it’s making me very upset. Is a large amount of scarring under the chin common after neck liposuction?
Scarring under the chin following neck liposuction can occur for a variety of reasons. Over aggressive liposuctioning is the most common reason for scarring following liposuction especially in the neck and beneath your chin. I try to leave a thin layer of fat on the undersurface of the skin to prevent scarring to the skin itself. I would suggest waiting several months before attempting to correct this scarring as the scar may soften as it matures and become insignificant. Your surgeon may elect to inject steroids into the liposuction site if the scarring is too aggressive. Gentle massage to the area is also of some benefit.
