Question:
I’ve heard that massage is recommended after traditional liposuction. Is this true of laser lipo as well? Why is this and what type of massage exactly?
Answer:
I am not an advocate for any significant massage after liposuction in the early post operative period. I massage the areas treated at the time of laser liposuction to facilitate the removal of excess fat and fluids created during the laser liposuction procedure. A skilled practitioner in lymphatic drainage can help with areas of prolonged swelling and edema a week after the liposuction procedure and gentle massage to areas of slight irregularities can help to smooth out these areas quicker. Aggressive massage following laser liposuction is not generally necessary. You will be instructed on massage techniques at your first post operative visit to help expedite your healing.
