For most, there comes a time when looking in the mirror becomes a scary, panic-inducing experience. Crow’s feet, laugh lines, and many other wrinkles that were never there before appear seemingly overnight. Once this happens, rash decisions start getting made: decisions for over-invasive surgeries, treatments, and expensive over-the-counter creams made from exotic ingredients you’ve never heard of. This is not a healthy way to manage your appearance and maintain a healthy, youthful glow. By planning ahead with strategically timed Botox treatments, though, you can slowly smooth your way right past the wrinkles you’re “supposed” to get.
What Is Botox?
Botox injections are an FDA-approved derivative of the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. They are made of this sterile, purified protein which can be used to minimize the severity of wrinkles in various locations on the face and neck. During the procedure, Botox is injected in small amounts directly into the facial muscles beneath the treatment area. Botox is a toxin that weakens or temporarily paralyzes the muscle, which can reduce or even eliminate any skin creases present in the area.
Following your procedure, you may experience some minimal discomfort and perhaps some mild swelling. These side effects are a completely normal reaction to the injection and will not require that you take any time off from work or any other daily activities. Most patients will squeeze Botox injections into their busy schedule without any downtime at all. It may take about five to seven days to see your results, although some patients may have to wait up to two weeks to see their ultimate results. While results are not permanent, they will typically last from three to six months, at which point follow-up treatments can be scheduled to avoid any lapse in your new youthful appearance.
When Is the Right Time to Start Botox Treatments?
By the time most people have reached their late 20s or early 30s, some early signs of aging have already begin to appear around the eyes and mouth. Once these lines begin to form, they will only deepen and settle further into the skin. As discussed, Botox can reverse wrinkles but it can also prevent them from forming. With the muscles relaxed and unable to contract and form creases, these early lines cannot be deepened any further. The skin will lie flat instead, protected from further damage.
The ideal time to start the first treatments in your Botox plan is around this timeframe: from the late 20s to early 30s. Basically, as soon as you start to notice those fine little creases, it’s time to schedule a consultation and take action. This approach has been able to produce effective results in patients. When younger patients use Botox as a preventative measure, wrinkles will form more slowly and the face can be trained to resist expressions that cause the most creasing. Over time, as these patients age, fewer and fewer Botox treatments will be needed to help them maintain the same results.
Are There Risks to Botox Treatments?
When it comes to Botox, there are far more benefits than there are risks. The most common side effects are quite minor, including some numbness and tingling that will gradually subside. Allergic reactions to Botox are very rare and the body is able to safely process Botox from the system over time. The vast majority of Botox patients are satisfied with their results, returning for touch-ups and repeat procedures as needed. Getting on your own Botox plan is a safe and effective way to get a jump on the aging process and stay looking younger for much longer.
