Reshape Your Nose. Keep What Makes You, You.

You may be noticing something about your nose that has always bothered you. A bump along the bridge, a tip that droops, nostrils that feel out of proportion, or breathing that has never been quite right. Wanting to look refreshed does not mean wanting to look different.

Rhinoplasty with Dr. Schoenfeld in Washington, DC is designed for patients who value refinement over dramatic change. Each procedure is approached with deep respect for your facial balance, ethnic identity, and individuality. The goal is enhancement, not transformation.

Frequently Asked
Rhinoplasty

Line
How long will it take for the swelling to go down?

Swelling can persist for many months following rhinoplasty since the tissues in the nose heal slowly. The swelling will go down gradually over the first few months, with much of it subsiding within the first few weeks. Residual swelling may remain for 6-12 months following surgery, so results are not considered final until that time.

What rhinoplasty office is near me?

If you live near Chevy Chase, MD, RENU by Dr. Schoenfeld offers rhinoplasty among its services and is conveniently located at 5454 Wisconsin Ave #1625, Chevy Chase, MD 20815.

Can I get a second rhinoplasty if I’m not happy with my results?

While it is possible to get a second rhinoplasty (known as a revision rhinoplasty), it is best to avoid this by choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon. Rhinoplasty surgery is extremely difficult the first time, and it becomes even more difficult the second time. Careful planning and realistic expectations will go a long way toward ensuring you are happy with your results. Nose cosmetic surgery doesn’t always go as planned, unfortunately, but if you choose your surgeon wisely, you are likely to get a beautiful result.

Am I ready for nose job?

Choosing to undergo a nose job procedure is a big decision, and you will have to make the choice about when the time is right yourself—do not let anyone pressure you. If you’re not sure yet, do some more research, consult with a plastic surgeon, and make sure it’s something you really want before you go through with it. Your rhinoplasty surgery in Washington DC produces permanent results, so don’t take the decision lightly!

What are the risks of a nose job procedure?

Though all surgery carries some risk, an experienced rhinoplasty surgeon will be able to minimize the risks of the procedure, which can include:

• Excessive bleeding
• Scarring
• Infection
• Asymmetry
• Breathing problems
• Poor aesthetic outcome

Dr. Schoenfeld has over 20 years of experience he and will work closely with you to minimize your risk as much as possible.

Will rhinoplasty leave scars?

Open rhinoplasty does involve an external incision, but this typically heals very well and eventually no one should be able to notice it unless you point it out. Closed rhinoplasty is made through incisions hidden within the nose, so these should be invisible. There is always a small scarring risk in surgery, but it’s minimal for rhinoplasty Washington DC.

How long does a nose bump take to go away?

Most “bumps” people notice after rhinoplasty are swelling or firmness from healing, not a permanent change. Early swelling improves steadily in the first 2-3 weeks, but subtle swelling can take months, and final refinement can take up to 12 months (sometimes longer, especially at the tip). If a bump appears suddenly after a hit to the nose or gets more painful/red, that’s different, reach out to your surgeon promptly.

How much does Rhinoplasty Cost?

The cost of rhinoplasty will depend on several factors.  Surgeon’s fees, anesthesia fees, and operating room fees.  Although operating room and anesthesia fees are fairly consistent and based on total operative time, surgeon’s fees do vary depending on several factors.  The complexity of the nose and the experience of your surgeon will affect the cost of rhinoplasty.   I perform over 150 rhinoplasty surgeries a year.  A revision rhinoplasty is almost always going to be a bit more expensive than a primary rhinoplasty.  If cartilage grafts outside of the nose, such as rib, cadaver, or ear, need to be utilized then the cost of rhinoplasty will escalate.  We typically charge around $17,000 for a primary rhinoplasty and slightly more for revision rhinoplasty.   A detailed consultation is going to be necessary to determine the exact cost of rhinoplasty or revision rhinoplasty.

Can your Nose Fall off after Plastic Surgery?

No, your nose won’t “fall off.” That said, every surgery has risks, and rare complications can include skin/healing problems or infection. What patients should actually watch for: worsening pain, dark/gray skin changes, spreading redness, fever, or foul drainage, those are urgent signals to contact your surgeon immediately.

What is the best time to do a teen Rhinoplasty?

The “best time” is when two things are true:

  1. Nasal/facial growth is essentially complete, and
  2. the teen is emotionally ready with realistic expectations.

Many surgeons use ~15+ as a common minimum unless there’s a serious functional issue.  A large part of the decision is individualized, growth patterns, breathing problems, and maturity matter as much as the calendar age.

How is a Nose Job done?

Rhinoplasty reshapes the nose by adjusting bone, cartilage, and sometimes the septum (especially if breathing is part of the goal).

Surgeons typically use either:

  • Open rhinoplasty (small incision at the columella for wider visibility), or
  • Closed rhinoplasty (incisions inside the nose).
  • Structural Rhinoplasty
  • Preservation Rhinoplasty

The specific approach depends on your anatomy and what needs to change, especially tip structure and symmetry.

How much does it cost to fix a crooked nose?

A crooked nose generally requires two aspects of the nose to be corrected.  The first is the functional portion of the nose.  Generally speaking, crooked noses have a crooked septum, enlarged turbinates one side or both, and possibly nasal valve stenosis.  These functional repairs may be able to be billed to your insurance however, any cosmetic changes to the nose will be charged as a rhinoplasty.   If functional repairs are done at the time of your rhinoplasty,  the aesthetic portion of the procedure,  then this will help offset a portion of the anesthesia and facility fees you would incur for rhinoplasty alone.  A consultation with us will help determine the structural and aesthetic issues you are dealing with and we can give you a better idea of the cost.

How long is a nose job procedure?

Most rhinoplasty surgeries take about 2 to 4 hours, depending on how complex the work is (tip refinement, grafting, revision surgery, septum/breathing correction, etc.).
