Question:
I am worried about my upcoming facelift making my face look too tight. What do you do during the surgical procedure to prevent this?
Answer:
I think that the days of the overdone facelift are finally behind us. Nobody wants an overdone look from a facelift. The way I avoid this appearance is to make sure that the pull and lift of the facelift does not come from the skin itself. There is a much stronger layer of tissue just beneath the skin called the SMAS. All of the tension that I place on the face during a facelift is placed on the SMAS. The skin is then gently redraped over the newly positioned SMAS. The amount of skin that I can remove in this fashion is significant and the skin is placed under no tension thus, avoiding the overdone facelift appearance.
