I had cartilage taken from my ear and placed in my tip.

Question:
I had cartilage taken from my ear and placed in my tip. It seems very hard and inflexible. Is this normal and will it soften after time?

Answer:
Tip grafts are frequently placed during rhinoplasty to help sculpt an otherwise amorphous tip. Your nasal tip may feel more firm than you are used to for the first several months following your rhinoplasty, but, the scar tissue will soften at the nasal tip and your tip will feel more natural. Remember, however, that the reason the cartilage graft was initially placed during your rhinoplasty was likely to give your nasal tip some shape and structure. Your tip will likely feel more firm than it did prior to your rhinoplasty, but, you will appreciate the shape and likely forget about the stiffness.
