Question:
I had LASIK refractive surgery six months ago. I’m 48, so I don’t think the surgery caused it, but my eyelids have begun drooping in a very unattractive way and I’d like to get eyelid surgery to fix them. Do I have to wait a certain amount of time after LASIK before getting a blepharoplasty?
Answer:
I hope that your LASIK surgery went well. I would be surprised if the surgery had anything to do with drooping of our upper lids but, excess skin and aging of the upper lids can be easily addressed. The surgery to correct your upper eyelids will not involve the eye itself. Normally, I place globe protectors into the eyes when I perform lower eyelid surgery, but, for upper eyelid surgery I do not necessarily place them. If you have recently had LASIK surgery, then I would be extra careful with the eye but, fixing the lid will be of no consequence.
