I had otoplasty 2 weeks ago, but my ears seem to look different from one another

Posted by Dr. Schoenfeld

Question:
I had otoplasty 2 weeks ago.  I am not sure if this is just from the swelling or not, but my ears seem to look quite different from one another.  I don’t feel any difference between the two as far as pain and sensitivity goes.  Have you seen the ears heal at different times before?  I hope this is not what their permanent position will be.

Answer:
Although your ears will likely feel fine after two weeks following your otoplasty, there will still be a decent amount of swelling of your ears that you will have to wait to resolve.  If your ears are markedly asymmetric then you should discuss this with your surgeon to make sure a suture has not ruptured and nothing needs to be attended to more immediately.
