I have very thin top and bottom lips

Question:
I have very thin top and bottom lips and want to have fuller lips. I would prefer a more permanent surgical technique for lip reshaping than collagen injections because I have heard that the collagen can cause your lips to be misshapen. Is there a better chance of success, that is, great looking lips, with the surgery or the collagen?

Answer:
Lip augmentation is a frequently requested procedure in my office. I no longer use collagen for a number of reasons. The greatest reason is that collagen does not last nearly as long as the currently available hyaluronic acid products such as Juvederm and Restylane. I am able to sculpt the lip and not just augment the lip with the use of these injectable fillers. For a more permanent solution there are newer soft silicone implants that have been recently introduced to the market that have been having very good clinical success.
