I make presentations to others as part of my job

Posted by Dr. Schoenfeld

Question:
I make presentations to others as part of my job. I have heard people comment under their breath that I look pretty haggard when I am not even tired. I want to improve my appearance so I can look like the professional woman that I feel I am. My eyes are the problem. I would like to have both upper and lower lid blepharoplasty. Will I be able to conceal bruising with makeup after a couple days or is the recovery time longer? Will I need to take pain medication for very long after the operation?

Answer:
There is no question that aging of the eyes makes an individual appear tired and less vibrant than they truly feel. Although you will feel well following an upper and lower lid blepharoplasty after only a few days, the swelling and bruising that you will likely have can take at least a week to subside enough that it may be covered with makeup. I try not to promise a quick recovery to my patients for any procedures especially eyelid procedures because the bruising can be unpredictable and I do not want people to think something is wrong if they still have some discoloration shortly after surgery. After a week most people look pretty presentable.
