Im a 29-year-old woman and Im getting a rhinoplasty next week.

Question:
Im a 29-year-old woman and Im getting a rhinoplasty next week. Im starting to get nervous and Ive been wondering a lot about how my recovery will affect my life. I know its going to be difficult to breathe through my nose for a while, but will it also hurt to brush my teeth and chew right after nose surgery?

Answer:
Rhinoplasty recovery is not always as painful as you may think it will be. Most of my patients do very well after their rhinoplasty surgery and are able to perform light activity within a day of surgery. I am more concerned with keeping everything on your face as immobile as possible following rhinoplasty so I do caution patients with regards to brushing their teeth and eating following surgery, not for pain but, for proper healing. As far as breathing goes, I do not use nasal packing following rhinoplasty but do use hollow intranasal splints that you will be able to breath through with little obstruction.
