Question:
What do you think is the best treatment for enhancing the cheekbones? I am 27 years old, and I feel that my face does not show enough definition. I think I would look great with better cheekbones. Is the usual procedure to get an implant, injectable fillers or a fat transfer? Does it depend on how much augmentation I would like or is it more about choosing between a temporary and a permanent solution?
Answer:
Your questions regarding your cheek bones are excellent and in part provide some of the answers. I really love the look of a defined cheek bone and augmentation of the midface that implants, fillers, and autologous fat provide. When I evaluate someone for cheek augmentation I first gauge how much augmentation they require and what look they are seeking. I like to use dermalfillers like Juvederm or Restylane on my patients so that they can see what the effects of cheek augmentation will have on their appearance going forward. If they love what they see, which is usually the case in the properly selected patient, I will then suggest either a more permanant filler, such as autologous fat, or even an implant, which is a permanent solution to the problem. The choice of technique for midface implants is a decision that you and I will make together.
