I’m 42, male, and I’ve been thinking about getting dermabrasion to make my face look less aged. From what I’ve read about the procedure, it sounds like a pretty harsh treatment. Is it possible for dermabrasion to create scarring of its own?
Answer:
Facial dermabrasion is an invasive procedure that when performed correctly can help with deep facial wrinkles, but, when performed incorrectly, can lead to facial scarring at the areas treated. Dermabrasion is designed to remove the outer most layer of skin so that new collagen will reform and lead to tighter, less lax and wrinkled skin. I have found that laser skin resurfacing with an ablative laser yields comparable results to dermabrasion with what I believe is more control of the depth of penetration into the skin compared to dermabrasion.
