Are the results of a fat transfer permanent?

Question:
Are the results of a fat transfer permanent, or does it require regular maintenance every few years or months?

Answer:
There is a great deal of debate with regards to how permanent fat transfer to the face is. In my experience, about 60-70% of the fat which is transferred will survive when injected appropriately. Touch up procedures are not uncommon in autologous fat transfer. Touch up fat transfer should be performed after the fat has had some time to settle in the face.
