Question:
I have pre-jowls jowls that I believe might disappear if I had a fat transfer to my jawline. Is this how you would treat the jowls?
Answer:
The question that you have asked with regards to fat injections is a good one. The area that you are referring to is the prejowl sulcus. Jowling occurs as the face ages and the only really effective way to reduce jowling is through a facelift or a MACS lift (mini-facelift). The addition of fat to the prejowl sulcus or prejowl hollow, smooths out the transition from your jowling along the jawline by adding fat to the hollow area directly in front of your jowls. My patients who would prefer to delay facelift surgery have been extremely pleased with the addition of dermal fillers and autologous fat to this area.
